New Delhi: Shabbir Hussain Shekhadam Khandwawala, head of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has expressed apprehensions that alleged bookies in the matches played during the recently suspended Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground here A sweeper was helping with the ‘pitch-feeding’.

Ball-by-ball betting is done with the help of pitch-siding. In this, the bookie takes advantage of the time taken between the match and its telecast on television. The person present on the field informs the bookies about the result of the next ball just moments before the broadcast on television.

“An ACU officer apprehended a person in this case and handed over the details to the Delhi Police,” the former Gujarat police director general told PTI on Wednesday. The suspected criminal managed to escape leaving both his mobile phones. The ACU has lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police. “We are thankful to the Delhi Police that on the information of the ACU, they arrested two people from Kotla in another case.”

Delhi Police arrested two people with fake identity cards during a match played between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 2. Hussain said, “These people managed to reach Kotla on two different days. Who managed to escape from there. He came as a sanitation worker. We have all his details, because he was working for the tournament. His Aadhaar card details have been handed over to the Delhi Police. ”

The ACU chief said, “I am sure that in a day or two, he will also be caught.” That would be a small pawn working for a hundred or a few thousand rupees. ”Hussain, however, agreed that lower-level employees could be used by a larger gang, because of the bio-safe implemented due to Kovid-19. In view of the measures, no outsider has access to hotels. He said, “Just as the circumstances change, the manner of crime also changes. But we are ready for it. ”

When Hussain was asked how ACU was suspected on the scavenger, he said, “He (inside Feroz Shah Kotla complex) was standing alone in a secluded area, so one of our officers approached him and asked what you here What are you doing? He said, “I am talking to my girlfriend.” He said, “My officer dialed her number and asked her to give me the phone.” When the officer was looking at his phone, he fled from there. ”

Interestingly, he had an IPL Accreditation Card (identification card required to go inside the stadium) which was given to the employees of class IV. This includes workers like bus drivers scavengers and porter associated with the tournament. He said, “He had installed an I-card and had two mobile phones, so he was suspicious.” He said, “He may have been giving information to an influential bookie, so we called the Delhi Police It is deemed necessary to inform. The Delhi Police responded positively and two people were arrested. ”

Hussain confirmed that during the 29 matches of the IPL, no complaints were received regarding corruption of players or support staff involved in the tournament. He also said that in the hotel where the team of Sunrisers Hyderabad stayed during the matches in Mumbai, there were three people with dubious records. His name is also in the list of ACUs. However, he could not get in touch with the players. He said, “As soon as we got the information, we contacted the Mumbai Police. The Mumbai Police Commissioner took immediate cognizance and the police apprehended the three of them. “
